What is APD’s definition of Crisis?
You can read APD’s definition of Crisis Status Criteria here.
The categories of Crisis Status Criteria include the following:
- “The applicant is currently homeless, living in a homeless shelter, or living with relatives in an unsafe environment.” (Homelessness)
- “The applicant exhibits behaviors that, without provision of immediate waiver services, may create a life-threatening situation for the applicant or others, or that may result in bodily harm to the applicant or others requiring emergency medical care from a physician.” (Danger to self or others)
- “The applicant’s current caregiver is in extreme duress and is no longer able to provide for the applicant’s health and safety because of illness, injury, or advanced age.” (Caregiver unable to give care.)
The First Steps When You’re in Crisis
Step 1: Join Our Mailing List
Sign up for weekly updates on the Florida Medicaid Waiver and other resources.
Step 2: Documentation
Keep a journal and document the daily struggles and the incidents as they occur. This will help you build your narrative to apply for Crisis.
Step 3: Contact APD Liaison
Reach out to your local APD office by phone and inquire about who to contact for your specific case.
