Will the Florida Medicaid Waiver pay for a Mobility Van?

Today’s Coffee Chat is another popular question in Facebook groups:

“Will the Waiver pay for a mobility van?”

The simple answer is yes.

The complex answer is that the Waiver will actually pay for just the modifications to a van, but they won’t pay for a specialty van, nor will they pay for the modifications if it includes modifying the frame of the vehicle.

So for most parents, you can get some funding to cover part of it, but you can’t actually get the full funding. However you can get a portion of it.

This is a question that gets into a lot more detail, and it is covered in the Medicaid Waiver Handbook guidelines. Check out the CDC Plus Handbook, which has most of the rules available for parents. Your Waiver Support Coordinator will have access to the regular Waiver (not CDC Plus) handbook as well.

Although it gets a little fuzzy, we always recommend that parents familiarize themselves with the Medicaid Waiver Handbook so that if there is a question, they’re very well informed and they have the education to fight for what their child deserves and qualifies for.
